Consequence Chart

Happy Summer, Moms and Kids! To help your summer get off to a fantastic start, I wanted to share with you a little tool I use.  It’s a Consequence Chart, and if you’re anything like me, it’ll be a great way for you to have more fun and less stress this summer…and all year ’round. For all the details, come visit me at Busy Mom’s Helper, where I’m contributing today, and don’t forget to share some ideas of your own for smooth sailing this summer…

Using Decor to Make Each Child Feel Special

Happy Weekend, Mamas! One way I love spending my weekend is decorating.  Today I’m over at Busy Mom’s Helper sharing a tip about decorating.  I have five special children, and I’m using décor to make each child feel special. Come visit me there, and read the details of this project, and get inspired to do the same for each of your children.  This is one project you’re guaranteed to be able to finish by the end of the weekend! Sharing at some great link-up parties, including these…

Upside-Down Chocolate Chip Cheesecake

Since Mother’s Day is fast approaching, I wanted to share a recipe for all you mamas…because let’s face it, even though it’s your day, you might just be the one in the kitchen!  (And you probably wouldn’t have it any other way.)  This Upside-Down Chocolate Chip Cheesecake is something you can make the day before; just pull it out of the fridge when it’s time for dessert. It came about as a sort of happy accident.  I threw it together one evening, using what I had on…

Who IS Patrick, anyway?

If you wear a clover today, you might want to make sure it has 3 leaves, instead of 4, if you want to be true to the meaning of St. Patrick’s Day. If you’ve never read about the real Patrick, of whom the day speaks, it is one exciting story.  I thought I would share a bit of it here today, by quoting an excerpt from our favorite history book, The Mystery of History (Vol. II): “Patrick was born in England in 389.  (He was not Irish as most people would think!)  His parents were…

Growing Up is Hard to Do

My children are at different ages,  different stages but all with one thing in common… they’re growing up and growing up is hard to do. While we would all like to revisit yesteryear once in a while, growing up is something most people wouldn’t want to do over- because it’s hard work… skinned knees broken hearts hurt feelings and tough decisions. That’s the big one. And the bigger you get, so do the decisions. I tell my children that’s the way they know they are getting closer to…

I Heart Snow

Where we live, we get to experience all the seasons–sometimes in the same week! Winter here is very fickle. We get springlike days, and cold, rainy miserable days, and sometimes… we get snow. But not too often. So we try to thoroughly enjoy it while it’s here.   We have a snow day. And what I like about snow days is that everybody gets to be a kid for a day. Which means… no schoolwork, boogie-board sleds, snowball fights, snow cream, and throwing snow at the exact moment the picture is snapped, which…

It’s-a-Girl Pink Pom Pom Wreath Tutorial

What’s the perfect way to use the adorable pom poms we’ve been seeing everywhere?   Make a birth-announcement-wreath for the front door, of course!  (Perfect for my brand new niece xxoo)   Here’s how I did it: To make the pom poms: 1.Wrap yarn around and around your fingers, until you’re happy with the thickness of it. (Pulling the yarn from the inside of the roll makes it much easier, by the way!) 2. Tie a piece of yarn around the bundle, in a tight knot. 3. Snip all…

Paper Bag Popcorn

Popcorn is our favorite go-to snack, whether we’re watching a movie or doing schoolwork…especially now that we’ve discovered that we can just put regular popcorn kernels in a paper bag and microwave ’em!                            Using these simple steps, it makes the perfect single serving: Add 1/4 cup popcorn, 1 tsp oil, and 1/2 tsp salt to a paper bag. Fold top over. Shake. Microwave (on its side)  for 2 minutes. I put a 1/8 scoop…

Jazzing up January with New Books

We got new school books the other day. Please excuse the lonely little cotton stem; he needs friends. Yep.  In January. Adds a little excitement to the drab days of winter.  I mean, who doesn’t need a little sparkle amidst the gray? We’re conditioned to think that our students must begin a new textbook in September and be finished with it by May.  And sometimes it works out that way… sometimes, it doesn’t. The reality is, a child might speed through a book because they love it and be ready for the next…

Life is Precious

Today, I’m taking a little break from light-hearted posts   to talk about something that is near and dear to my heart…     the most precious gift of all… life. Thirty-one years ago today, my family lost my baby brother.  Due to birth complications, he was only with us for four months.  But he was, and is, so loved. And on this very day, as I write, my own (16 yr old) baby boy is with friends at the march for life in Washington, DC to say with others there, that life is…
